Selecting a good venue for our workshop in a city like Milan is not a
easy job. Our target was to find a capacious place, easy to reach by
public transport, sited in the City and with a good selection of
accommodation within short walking distance from the workshop site. The
building we have chosen meets all our conditions and we hope all
attendant people will appreciate it.
Venue of the workshop will be Palazzo Mezzanotte, the former
headquarters of the Italian Stock Exchange since 1932. Until the end of
1980 the building housed the trading floor with the pits where the
brokers used to trade stocks by open outcry. In the early 1990 however,
the Italian Exchange Market underwent a radical change as the whole
trading process became electronic.
That meant the end of the traditional open outcry
method of trading. At the end of the XX century Palazzo Mezzanotte
underwent renovation and the area where open outcry trading took once
place was transformed into the new Congress Centre. The main room,
where ISSVA workshop will take place, has a capacity of 440 seats. Two
balconies offer good space for scientific exhibition and lunch.
Palazzo Mezzanotte is sited in the very centre of the historical city:
the Duomo, Galleria, Scala Theatre and Sforza Castle are all within
short walking distance. The underground station (Cordusio) is just 50
meters from Palazzo Mezzanotte.
