    BY PLANE
    Milan has three airports:
    - Malpensa Airport (Mpx) is the International hub where all Intercontinental and many European flights land.    It is about 50 Km (31 miles) to the north west of Milan.
Train (Malpensa Express) is a quick and cheap option to reach central Milan.   The train station is just below the air terminal (follow indications “ai treni”).  Trains leave every 20 minutes and the journey takes about 40’.  Tickets cost about 9 Euros.   Trains end up at Stazione Nord and the underground is a good option from there (red line, direction Sesto Marelli; tickets are available at every newspaper kiosk – ask for “biglietto metropolitana”).   Second stop is Cordusio, Palazzo Mezzanotte and the hotels are just a few minutes away on foot.
Coaches (Malpensa Shuttle) to the city leave in front of the air terminal every hour. The journey time depends on traffic.   Tickets cost about 10 Euros.   Coaches end at Stazione Centrale (Central Station).  Once again the underground is a good option (green line, direction Famagosta; tickets are available at every newspaper kiosk – ask for “biglietto metropolitana) and change at Stazione Nord, where you take the red line, direction Sesto Marelli (with the same ticket).   Second stop is Cordusio, Palazzo Mezzanotte and the hotels are just a few minutes away on foot.   A taxi can also be a good option from Stazione Nord and Stazione Centrale to your hotel.
Taxis are always available in front of the air terminal.   The fare from the airport to the city costs about  80 Euros.  Journey time depends on traffic (rush hour into the city between 7,30 and 10 a.m. and out of the city between 5 and 8 p.m.); outside rush hour the journey takes about 40’.

    - Linate Airport (Lin) is dedicated to internal and European flights.  It is 7.2 Km (4.5 miles) south east of the inner city.    If you are arriving from outside Europe but with a connection flight from another European city you may land in Linate (check your flight number: Malpensa is Mpx and Linate Lin).
The best option to reach Milan by bus fom Linate Airport is the urban line (orange bus) that stops in front of the terminal on the left side.  Bus ends in the central San Babila Square (piazza San Babila) where you take the underground (direction Molino Dorino).  Second stop is Cordusio, Palazzo Mezzanotte and the hotels are just a few minutes away on foot.  You can also walk from San Babila along the corso Vittorio Emanuele (fine shops) to the Duomo (the famous Milan cathedral) and the hotels: it is a 600 metres’ walk.
The Linate coach shuttle goes to Stazione Centrale: to continue see “Malpensa shuttle” above.
Taxis are available outside the air terminal.   The fare costs about 30 Euros
There is no train service from this Linate airport to the city centre.

    - Bergam Orio al Serio is a smaller airport dedicated to European low-cost flights.   It is about 55 Km (33 miles) north east of the city.
Shuttle coaches  to Milan leave in front of the air terminal and end at Stazione Centrale. From there, see “Malpensa shuttle” above.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Great majority of international airlines offers flights to Milan. Sometimes the flight passes through Rome.
Low cost airlines: due to a deregulation in Europe, many low cost airlines exist, which offers discounted flights in Europe (not intercontinental). Planes are mainly in good conditions  (no charters) and very often in time.
    Peculiarities of these companies are:
    -         flight prices may be much lower than main airlines, mainly by early booking
    -         flight prices change often;  special offers are often available
    -         tickets are available only on line: you find your flight by yoursefl on the net. You pay at confirmation by credit card through the net (the site is mainly sure). You print your confirmation at home: this is your ticket
    -         first class is not available
    -         food and beverages are by charge
    -         airport may be not the main international hub of the city and sometimes far away (check at confirmation)

    BY TRAIN
Milan is served by the finest train connections in Italy.     Eurostar high speed trains (ES) connect Rome with Milan (with stops in Florence and Bologna) in 4.30 hours and leave about every hour.   All other main cities are well connected.   Italian trains are not very expensive, compared to other European countries; a fare from Rome to Milan costs about 25 Euros in second class and about 42 Euros in first class.    All Eurostar trains arrive in Stazione Centrale.
From there, see above “Malpensa shuttle”

    BY CAR
Many highways take to Milan from different directions. Try to avoid the rush hour: between 7.30 and 9.30 a.m.  towards the city and between 5 and 8 p.m. leaving the city.

    BY COACH
Coach service from other Italian cities does exist, but is not the best way to travel in Italy, as trains are much better.   A regular coach service connects Turin with Milan in 2 hours.
