Villa del Principe is the richest and most sumptuous noble household of the city of Genoa. It was 1529 when Andrea Doria, skilful admiral and legendary man of arms, began the constructions that would have lead to the rise of this wonderful villa overlooking the Gulf of Genoa. This would become his peaceful spot, the return point from his numerous journeys and the household chosen for his successors: the Doria Pamphilj family. Here the Emperor Charles V was hosted during his official visits and was convinced by Andrea Doria to grant Genoa its independence from the empire. This made him by all means the Lord of the City.
Today the Villa of the Prince is a museum full of hidden treasures. To live its splendours once again it is sufficient to stroll through its halls, in wonder in front of its amazing fresco paintings and incredible tapestry.

TRIP TO PORTOFINO
Saturday afternoon

Portofino was originally a modest fishing village, extended as a moon arch: today it is considered one of the most beautiful Mediterranean ports and it is a popular tourist destination. Located in a small bay running inland from a natural little port, it is rimmed by colourful old houses overlooking a tiny square.
This sort of small village was founded by the Romans and named Portus Delphini, or Port of the Dolphin, because of the large number of dolphins that inhabited the Tigullian Gulf. In 1171, together with the town ‘Santa Margherita Ligure’, it was included in Rapallo's commune jurisdiction. After 1229 it was part of the Republic of Genoa. The town's natural harbour supported a fleet of fishing boats, but was somewhat too cramped to provide more than a temporary safe haven for the growing merchant marine of the Republic of Genoa.
Shopping is high class in Portofino, with its pretty harbour and its characteristic city-centre.
